Our thoughts on… The Warm Homes Plan

26th Feb 2026

We take a closer look at the Government’s newly announced Warm Homes Plan, a national programme designed to upgrade millions of homes across the UK to improve their energy efficiency.

What’s the story?

The UK Government has introduced the Warm Homes Plan, a £15 billion initiative aimed at improving the energy performance of up to five million homes. The programme is intended to help households reduce energy bills, cut carbon emissions and address long-standing issues around poor insulation and inefficient heating systems.

The plan focuses on supporting the least efficient homes first, with low-income households eligible for fully funded upgrades. Other households will be able to access low, or zero-interest loans, to install measures such as insulation, heat pumps, solar panels and smart heating controls.

Our view

The Warm Homes Plan represents the latest step towards addressing the energy efficiency challenges within the UK’s existing housing stock. For many years, policy and investment have tended to prioritise new-build standards, but this announcement recognises the importance of improving the homes people already live in. With insulation installation rates having fallen sharply over the past decade, the renewed focus on retrofit activity is hopefully also an opportunity for growth in the construction sector.

The plan sits alongside recent regulatory developments, including updates to Part L of the Building Regulations and the forthcoming Future Homes Standard, which seek to improve the energy-efficiency of buildings. However as we know from previously launched schemes that aimed to tackle the same issue, incorrectly specified and installed insulation causes serious issues. That’s why we will continue to work closely with our supplier partners to be able to offer our customers a wide range of products, technical advice and installation support.
