THAT’S A WRAP – LOOKING BACK ON 2023

19th Dec 2023

As the year comes to a close, it’s the perfect time to pause and reflect on our achievements over the last 12 months. We’ve focused our energy on our core strategy areas, collaborating closely with our supply chain and above all delivering first class service for our customers.

A tale of two trials – Product Traceability and Carbon Reporting

This year, we’ve been developing two new tools and while both are still in our test and trial phase, they are already generating a great deal of interest and look set to make a significant impact as we go into 2024.

We’re proud to be one of the first construction materials distributors to provide customers with full product traceability, designed to give our customers a clearer view and greater control over their orders. The system will provide a detailed ‘end to end’ report that tracks products from the manufacturer, at manufacturing batch level, through the distribution process and delivery to the goods-in location on a site.

The current trial is taking place on a live project and together with our supply chain partners Kingspan and Berkeley Group, we’ve successfully proven that we can track products from the point of manufacture to delivery onto site. The trial has also demonstrated that the solution works across the supply chain, which is absolutely crucial to supporting the golden thread of information.

Our comprehensive and unique new carbon reporting tool has been another key development this year. We’re currently working closely with a panel of key customers to trial the new tool which will allow us to gather as much data as possible and co-create a report that works for everyone. Once launched it will provide accurate data on the carbon emissions relating specifically to the delivery of products to site and going forwards it will also include the embodied carbon of the products - enabling decision makers to identify areas where tangible carbon savings could be made. On the road to net zero

Sustainability is another key part of our core strategy and we’re committed to developing sustainable solutions that bring tangible benefits to our customers and supply chain partners.

As well as working on new developments such as our carbon reporting tool, we’ve also introduced a host of environmental initiatives from phasing out diesel-fuelled vehicles in our warehouses to using hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO). This will reduce our own carbon footprint and, by extension, the embodied carbon associated with our deliveries.

Technical expertise to rely on

Colleagues and customers outside of our branch partaking in fire protection training, led by the ASFP

We pride ourselves on our technical expertise, keeping up-to-date on the latest regulation and product changes so we can support our customers with accurate and impartial advice. This year we’ve joined forces with our supply chain partners ROCKWOOL and the ASFP to deliver a series of passive fire training sessions as well as hosting an insightful roundtable on the implications of changes to Part L of the Building Regulations with Knauf Insulation.

The work we’ve done and the systems we’ve put in place this year provide a strong foundation for 2024 so we can continue to support our customers on their projects.
