Getting to Know Derek Gordon, Regional Ceilings Manager (North)

8th Oct 2025

With two decades of experience and a passion for ceilings, Derek Gordon is a familiar face across CCF’s northern branches. We caught up with him to learn more about his journey, his day-to-day, and what keeps him motivated on and off the clock.

What’s your role at CCF, how long have you been with the company, and where are you based?

I’m the Regional Ceilings Manager for the North, based in Glasgow. I’ve been with CCF for 20 years and have worked my way through a variety of roles. These include internal sales, Assistant Branch Manager, Branch Manager, and Regional Account Manager. Each step has helped shape my understanding of the business and the sector.

What does a typical working day look like for you?

No two days are the same, which is part of what I enjoy. Some days I’m out visiting customers and then I’m tracking projects with suppliers or supporting our branches and key account directors. It’s a mix of relationship-building, strategy, and problem-solving.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

When I first joined CCF, I quickly realised how central ceilings were to our business. I made it my mission to learn the basics and build my expertise. That passion has stayed with me ever since. I also really value the relationships I’ve built across our branches. They’ve always been supportive of new ideas and plans, which makes my role so enjoyable.

How would your colleagues describe you in three words?

Positive, approachable, and committed.

What’s a hobby or passion you have outside of work, and how did you get into it?

Football is a big part of my life. I’ve supported Glasgow’s Rangers FC for as long as I can remember and I’ve held a season ticket for 35 years. (I know, I don’t look old enough!)

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Early in my career, a wise colleague told me, “customers are at the forefront of everything we do. If we look after them, they’ll look after us.” That’s always stuck with me and is as relevant now as back then. Another favourite is, “make it happen.” I believe hard work always gets recognised. Put the effort in and the rewards will follow.

What’s the one app or website you can’t live without, and why?

Amazon. It’s just so easy and convenient!

What’s the best holiday or trip you’ve ever been on?

We recently went on a two-week Mediterranean cruise as a family, which was incredible. But the standout trip has to be a six-week holiday to Australia and New Zealand over Christmas. Sunshine at Christmas is the future!
