CCF Supply Essential Materials to Sunderland’s Nightingale Hospital

The COVID-19 crisis put the NHS under increasing pressure and for hospitals with limited beds available, this presented an issue of how patients would be cared for once health facilities reached capacity. In preparation for this, insulation and interior building product distributor, CCF, has been working with contractors to supply essential materials for temporary hospitals to be constructed across the country. One of these temporary hospitals is the Sunderland Nightingale Hospital.
To quickly be able to provide a solution to cope with an expected increase in hospital patients, Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals Foundation Trust needed to facilitate the construction of a new 460-bed hospital to act as a temporary location for patients during the COVID-19 crisis.
The new facility needed to be built with quality building materials suitable for use in a medical facility, that could also offer ease of installation and quick construction to meet the project brief of a quick completion date.
Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals Foundation Trust decided to build the site at the Washington IAMP development within close proximity to the A1 and the A19, so it has great transport links. Helping with the construction process, CCF was appointed by Kenmor Ceilings and Partitions due to having a complete range of flexible building products solutions and construction equipment for hire.
CCF advised that its Tradeline range of metal stud and track solutions would be the ideal solution for the quick, easy to fit together assembly of lightweight yet strong non-load-bearing partitions. For added flexibility, Tradeline’s metal sections are compatible with all major brands of wallboard and ceiling tiles. As a result, the new hospital frames could be quickly erected and installed with other systems to create a strong internal building structure for the 16 separate hospital wards inside the building.
To complete the interior fit-out, CCF delivered British Gypsum board and jointing materials, as well as plasterboard accessories from Expamet. Specialist Rockfon baffles, designed to be hygienic for hospital grade applications, were also supplied.
To provide further assistance, CCF offered a tool hire service to ensure that construction could be carried out with the right specialist safety equipment. The podiums and scissor lifts, provided by CCF, allowed the project to run more efficiently as equipment was quickly made readily available for use on-site. Everyone at CCF showed real commitment and dedication to enable the quick progress of the project. Collections were made throughout the day and during out of hours to ensure that the contractor leading the project had everything they required at each stage of the project.
Starting in March 2020, the building was transformed into a hospital in just four weeks. The hospital is now ready to be used should the NHS need support in the North East. While it is hoped that the facility will not be necessary, the hospital will prove vital should it be required.
